The V.I. Cruise into the Quarterfinals with 24 Point Win |
||||||
The V.I. came into the playoffs Monday night not knowing anything about their opponent, not even their team name. None of that mattered as the Idiots went on to beat up on the AndOne allstars 49-25 to advance to the quarterfinals. The AndOne allstars lead by the white Rasheed Wallace in the middle got some lucky breaks in the 1st quarter and built up a 13-10 advantage after one. In the second quarter the V.I. shutdown all hopes of an upset for AndOne by dominating and outscoring them 17-2 to go up 12 at the half. Fred "Bryant Gumbel" Paul (8 assists) was a little late to the game but his arrival in the 2nd helped V.I. run more and take control of the game. The referee tried to take The Fribulator out of his game by talking trash but Freddie would not be rattled.
The second half was more of the same for the Village Idiots. Center Joe Young (4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) finally found the right court and had a solid second half. Led by the offensive explosion of Greg Gormsen (13 points, 8 rebounds) the Idiots outscored their opponents 22-10 in the shortened second half. The game was cut short at the end of the 4th quarter as And1's center, who blocked the s**t out of one of Freddie's shots earlier, got into with V.I. forward Tom Casal. Before anything could happen the ref stopped the game and the V.I. went on to celebrate their victory (drive-by free) in the parking lot.
Casal finished with a team-high 16 points and Matt Shiels pulled down 12 rebounds in the win.
