Idiots take out the Hustlers 26-20 to Advance!(see full schedule and results by clicking here) The Village Idiots had one blemish on their record this season which was a 19-13 loss to the Hustlers back on April 22nd. They would be given the chance to avenge that loss in the Divisional Finals when the two teams faced off again... The Idiots would receive the opening kickoff and quickly get the action started. Brian Stanley hooked up with the V.I.'s leading receiver, Randy Cardona, for a 30 yard gain to set up a QB sneak for the first score of the game. After a blocked extra point the Idiots led 6-0, and the defense reinforced the effort by holding the Hustlers scoreless on their first drive. Stanley returned to the helm and found Cardona again, this time Randy did all of the work and took the ball across the goal-line himself to stretch the lead to 12-0. The Hustlers did answer before halftime, and the score was 12-6 at the break. The Hustlers received the 2nd half kick and appeared to run it all the way for the score, but the Idiots caught a break and a penalty pushed their opponents back. The Hustlers did not let up their charge, however, and they put together a nice drive to get back in the game and got in the end-zone on a 5-yd dash. The extra point was good and the lead changed hands at 13-12... The potent Village Idiots offense was placed back on the field and mixed it up with a few yards via run, a few more via pass, until BStan found Cardona in traffic and he broke out of the pack with the ball and a clear 40 yard path to the end-zone! BStan then connected with Dan Ryan for the 2-pt conversion and the V.I. were ahead 20-13 with about 4-minutes to go. The Hustlers just couldn't be shaken as they were given good field position on the kickoff and turned a simple crossing pattern into a 40 yard TD sprint of their own. After the extra point, the score was knotted at 20, and BStan would have about 3 minutes to orchestrate a game-winning drive or settle for overtime... With the pressure on, Stanley would again attack the defense on the ground and through the air, each time gaining just enough to move the chains, and at the same time, keep the clock moving. The clock wound down to 14 seconds remaining and the Idiots faced 3rd and goal from the 14-yard line. With Gary Tizio's leg twitching in anticipation on the sideline, BStan made sure this game would not come down to a tough FG attempt, as he scrambled from the pocket to find Tom Weber in the back of the end-zone for the difference maker! A superb leaping catch by TWebs would give the Village Idiots the 26-20 victory and a trip to the Nassau County Finals for the first time!!! The Village Idiots will crossover to battle Team Takeover in the Nassau Finals...
