Spring 2007 - Game 7 |
The V.I. Defense, led by Cardona's 3 picks, Shuts Down the Cougars!(see full schedule and results by clicking here) Another windy Sunday morning at Bay Park, had the 5-1 Village Idiots looking to close out their regular season schedule on an high note. The opponents were the 5-1 Cougars, and someone would be handed their second loss on this day. The winner would be guaranteed a bye in the first round of the playoffs and avoid the always tough double-header next week. Unlike last week, the Idiots would have the wind on their side in the first half. A deep kick by Gary Tizio put the Cougars in a tough spot on their opening drive. The compromising field position was quickly taken advantage of, as Randy Cardona snagged the first of what would be three interceptions and set the V.I. Offense up with a short field. With the wind at his back, Brian Stanley came out firing, connecting with Dan Knipscher and Tom Weber before getting behind a Danny Morgan block and trotting into the end-zone. The Idiots would take that 6-0 lead into half-time after a second Cardona interception ended the subsequent Cougar drive. With the defense holding strong all day, BStan would welcome Oscar Alcantara back from the disabled list by tossing him a 40 yard strike after Oscar blew past the would-be defenders. Another Bstan rush for the 2-pt conversion would bring the Idiots to the 14-0 lead that they would take to the showers. Cardona's 3rd pick of the day preserved the shutout and the V.I. take their record to 6-1. Playoffs will likely be starting next week, so check back for details...The V.I. are joined this season by members of Green Bay Home Improvement! Check the Roster! __________
