Spring 2007 - Game 5 |
The V.I. Hands Floral Park their First Loss! The Idiots are on Top Again! (see full schedule and results by clicking here) After battling to their first loss short-handed last week, the Village Idiots came fully equipped for their matchup against the undefeated Floral Park squad, and they needed all of their weapons on this day. In the midst of one of his most solid seasons to date, V.I. QB Brian Stanley got off to his first slow start of the season, as he threw two interceptions in the early going. Luckily for the Idiots, their defense managed to weather the storm and did not let the opponents get too far with those rare gifts out of BStan's arm. The V.I. were down only 7-0 as they drove towards the end of the first half. Seeking that key momentum going into the half, BStan hooked up with Danny Ryan on a deep post that DRye took to within feet of the goal line after breaking away from a defender. Two plays later, the TD was also DRye's as he maid a leaping grab while tightly covered and came down with the score. Without their kicking game available, the V.I. chose to tie the score through the air as well, as Tom Weber snatched the conversion pass for the extra point. 7-7 at the half. Floral Park got the ball to start the second session and on the second play dashed 50 yards for the go ahead touchdown. The Idiots answered when newcomer Keith Lawrence took a quick hitch and broke free for a dash of his own. This time, the conversion was no good, so the V.I. trailed 14-13. Another long run put Floral Park up by eight points, but the Idiots' quickly exposed an overmatched secondary and BStan hit Randy Cardona on a number of different routes to setup an eventual QB draw for a score that would pull the V.I. within 2, but again failed to convert for the tie. It would be up to the defense again to hold and give the Idiots one more shot. A big rush up front and key pass coverage made easy work of a Floral Park attempt to put the game away. The Idiots forced a three-and-out and would start at mid-field after the punt with about two-minutes left. BStan took exactly two plays to get the ball to Cardona behind the defense and he trotted in for the go ahead score and the V.I. led 25-21. BStan then sealed the deal on defense, providing a key sack to crush the chances of a last second miracle and Floral Park found themselves in the loss column for the first time this season. The Idiots are now 4-1, holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the FP! The Idiots are back in action next Sunday, May 6th at Noon in Inwood (directions here) The V.I. are joined this season by members of Green Bay Home Improvement! Check the Roster! __________
