Fall '06 - Game 1 |
The Village Idiots made their return to the Long Island Flag Football League on Sunday, September 10th fielding a squad mixed with All-time V.I. greats as well as next generation V.I. growing into the spotlight... The Idiots came out looking athletic and strong against a Tornados team that looked overmatched early as BStan led two big drives by poking holes in the opposing defense. Picking up right where he left off in the summer tourney, TWebs grabbed 2 TDs in the 1st half to put the V.I. up 13-6 at the intermission. The huffing and puffing on the V.I. sideline, as well as a tweaked hamstring on their stalwart QB, forshadowed what became a tough second session for the Idiots. Their dedication to tailgating over the summer started to show, as the only faction of the V.I. game plan that they seemed dedicated to was subsitutions to battle fatigue. With BStan left immobile in the pocket, precious offensive opportunities were missed and left the defense exposed to the constant pressure of a renewed Tornado attack. Only a 4 yd TD catch by V.I. newbie Oscar broke up 3 consecutive scores against a confused Idiot defense. A last minute INT sealed the game for the Tornados and the V.I. start '06 on a sour note with a 27-19 loss... luckily, we only have to wait a week to see more Village Idiot action! Next game Sunday, September 17th... (Location and time TBA... Stay tuned for updates!)
