After starting the season 2-0, VI had high hopes against the defending champs. The Idiots however, would get off to a tumultuous start. With the Godfather, DKnip, participating in a football game earlier that morning, the VI softball team was forced to start the game a man down.

Satriale’s took advantage of the shorthanded VI team and drove the ball to the gaps and jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings. VI got the Godfather back in the 3rd inning, and put up a two spot. Knip started a two out rally with a single, then scores on a double by GC. Tommy (Ordonez) Stanley then drove in GC with a single, which cut the deficit to 7-2.

In the top of the 4th, the Idiots defense fell apart. They allowed Satriale’s to score 6 runs, mostly off of errors, that extended the lead 13-2. With three innings of play left VI was only able to score one more run. J-dubs singled in Diesel in the bottom of the 4th to make it 13-3. After that, Satriale’s scored two more times to make the final score 15-3.

Game 2 would be a different story!!! Starting the game with all 10 players, the Idiots would flex their muscles and let Satriale’s know their title would be at risk this year.  With one out in the 1st, Tstan, Bissett and the Godfather strung together consecutive singles to give VI a 1-0 lead. Satriale’s would fight back and put up a 2 spot in the bottom half of the 1st. It would be the last time they had the lead!!!

In the top of the 2nd inning VI went back to work. With one out Espo drilled a single. Jorge Walls bat then came alive. He ripped a single, putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Ocho Cinco(the RBI machine) then stepped up and crushed a triple that scored Espo and Jorge. GC grounded out to 2nd, but it scored Ocho Cinco and gave VI a 4-2 lead. Satriale’s found the VI defense much tougher in the second game and only got one in their half of the 2nd.

With VI leading 4-3, bad boy Bissett got the offense going with a double. With one out, Diesel ripped a single that plated Bissett and made the score 5-3. The VI defense dialed it up again in the 3rd, and Espo pitched sharp as they blanked Satriale’s. With one out in the 4th, VI would strike again. Jorge Walls bat suddenly was charged, and he ripped off a single. Then Ocho Cinco stepped in, and crushed his third HR of the season, extending the VI lead to 7-3. The defense would once again hold Satriale’s to a bagel, and took their 7-3 lead into 5th.

The fifth inning had plenty of controversy in it. Knip led off the inning with a single. With 2 outs, J-dubs drilled a double, moving Knip to 3rd. Espo then appeared to crush his first HR of the season. The HR was appealed, and it was ruled that the hard throwing right hander missed 2nd base. Either way, VI still got the runs, and established a 9-3 lead. The 9-3 lead would hold up, as VI retired the side 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning.

It wasn’t until the 6th that VI busted the game wide open. With two outs GC singled to left. Then Tommy Stanley unleashed some never seen before power, as he crushed a ball to deep center, notching his first HR of the season. Bissett followed with a solo shot of his own, for his first dinger of the season. The Godfather, Diesel and Studley then hit 3 consecutive singles to give a the Idiots a commanding 13-3 lead. Satriale’s fought back hard, and managed a 3 spot in the bottom of the 6th, trimming the lead to 7. But VI flipped on the killer instinct and left no doubts in the last inning.

Espo made amends for his base running gaffe, by crushing another shot. This time he touched second and his first HR of the season was official. With one out, Ocho Cinco flashed his 4.4 speed and turned a single into a double. GC then doubled in OC. Tstan then singled and scored GC. Bissett then singled to put runners on the corners. Knip then hit a sac fly to left that plated Tstan. With two outs Diesel put the finishing touches on the win as he singled home Bissett. With an 18-6 lead, VI wasted no time holding Satriale’s scoreless in the 7th. They earned an 18-6 win, and definitely put themselves on the map with that win!
