After many seasons of Football and Basketball success, the Village Idiots decided to throw their hat into the Softball arena. With a collection of both original and young VI members, this team looked pretty tough on paper... but how would they fare on the field?

As the home team in the first of two games against Effin, the boys of VI took the field. Sporting their new Grey and navy blue three quarter sleeve jerseys, as well as blue hats! (All courtesy of the VI Godfather - Knipper) the Idiots would at least look good. Effin came out swinging, and the top of their lineup mustered two runs before Espo retired the side.

Down two runs in the bottom of the first, the offense answered right back, and Effin new the were in for a long afternoon. Leading off for VI was GC! GC (who is one of the oldest, yet still THE best looking VI member) got it going with a single to center. Then Manager/Captain T-STAN took a walk. Espo moved GC to third with a FC. With runners on the corners, Bissett drove in the first VI run of the season with a scorching double. With Espo on third, Studley hit a game tying single, and moved Bissett to third. The big Ocho Cinco (Allocco) then scored Bissett with a sac fly, giving VI a 3-2 lead after one.

After holding Effin scoreless in the top half of the second, VI struck again. With two outs, GC hit a single. T-Stanny then followed with a single of his own, only his took a bad hop on the outfielder and allwed GC to score all the way from first. This gave VI  a 4-2 lead.

Effin scored 1 in the third, trimming the VI  lead to 4-3... but once again VI would answer. Bissett got it going with a leadoff single, but was thrown out at 2nd on Studleys ground ball Fielders choice. OCHO CINCO then ripped a hard single that got away from the outfielder allowing Studley to score, while Pete and his sun glasses cruised in to third. The Godfather wasted no time cashing in on his first RBI chance, as he drove a single to left that scored the OCHO.

After Effin put up another 1 spot in the 4th, VI went to work. Rod "Where the f**k did we find this guy?" Carew tripled, and scored on GC's sac fly. Stanley and Espo then hit back to back singles, and Tstan moved to third on Bissett sac fly. Studley ripped a single to score Tstan, and that set the table for the big "OCHO CINCO". The farm boy from North Baldwin crushed the ball deep over the right field fence for the first VI home run of the season. It also gave VI a commanding 11-4 lead after 4.

Effin would come back strong as they plated 3 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th and took a 12-11 lead with 3 more in the 7th. Bissett and Studley made quick work of the Effin lead, as they came up with a double and RBI triple respectively. Then Effin intentionally walked OCHO CINCO and The Knipper, and stood tough in the field to keep the game at a dead lock.

After a scoreless 8 thru 10 innings, VI finally got it done. Tstan lead off with a single, and with one out moved to second on an infield error. Studley then stepped up big, and drove a double to the fence that scored Tstan and ended the marathon!

After taking game one in a marathon 11 inning battle, VI would get off to another quick start to open the second game. With one out, Tstan got things going with a single. Espo then doubled to set up Bissett with 2 men in scoring position. Bissett delivered, with a RBI single. Studley then got another run home with a sacrifice. Then it was the Big OCHO CINCO getting another RBI, as he singled in Bissett from third. The VI defense clamped down, and only allowed 1 Effin run.

The two teams exchanged runs in the 2nd, VI got theirs on a solo home run from Rod "Who the f**k is that" Carew! After getting blanked in the third, VI held a 4-2 lead. Effin would then put together their best inning of the day. Espo, who had pitched brilliantly couldn’t find his location, and Effin banged the youngster around for 7 runs, taking an 9-4 lead after three.

Espo would rebound after the 3rd as he pitched flawlessly and did not yield another run. This gave the potent VI offense time to come back... And come back they did!!! In the top of the 5th, Rod Carew and GC led off with singles. Tstan drew a walk to load the bases. Espo hit a sac fly that scored Carew, and Bissett reached on a FC to load the bases again. Studley then singled to score GC, and OCHO CINCO doubled to score Bissett and Studley. The Godfather then cleared the bases with a monster HR, giving VI a 10-9 lead.

With Espo pitching lights out, VI added one in the 6th, on a single by Danny, and a double by Carew. VI would tack on 3 more in the 7th on another HR by OCHO CINCO. A three run shot that scored Bissett and Studley. VI held on for the 14-9 win, and start their season 2-0.
