    Shorthanded - No Problem

    By TWebs | July 23, 2009

VI took to the court Monday night against the Blackhawks trying to start a new winning streak after their 18 game winning streak was ended two weeks ago.  It sure didn’t look like it was going to be easy as many of the Idiot’s regulars would not be in attendance.  Even without the likes of Chris “Lakehouse” Harrison, Tommy Casal, Matt Shiels and the Tank, the remaining VI members were focused at the task at hand and ready for the challenge.

From the opening tip the now famous 2-3 defense would prove to be too much for the Blackhawks.  Whether it was FP, Timmy “Technology Guru” Byrnes or Twebs harassing the guards once the ball crossed half court or John, Gormsen and G. Harrison blocking shots down low, the Blackhawks had no answer.  The constant pressure led to many easy hoops on offense with Big John easily shredding through the defense on his way to a game high 19 points.  It got to the point where the Blackhawks were having trouble even getting a shot off from the pressure and this led to a 27-2 halftime lead for the VI.

The second half would prove to be more of the same and the VI went on to a 47-14 victory.  As mentioned above, Big John led the team with 19 points, FP had 7 steals and as usual Greg Harrison led the team in rebounds and blocks.  After the game an impressive drinking display was held in the parking lot.  Even shorthanded the team with the help of Tommy the Scorekeeper went through 2 cases of ice cold Bud Lights and Coors Lights.  VI will be back in action Monday night against the first place Hit Squad at 8:45pm (time change from original schedule).  This will be a good test for the defending champions heading into the playoffs and should really give all of us a sense as to whether history can be made with a 3-peat.
