Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus…and there’s also a softball team sponsored by Minnesota’s…and you played against them too

By Allock of the Week | June 14, 2009

This past Wednesday, unbeknownst to one of the game’s actual participants, VI softball rebounded from last week’s loss with a 7-5 victory over Minnesota’s.    With this win, the Idiots now stand at 4-2, equaling their win total from two seasons prior.

VI smacked 14 hits against Minnesota’s with all but one starter joining in the hit parade - the dreaded cleanup spot curse claimed another victim (and appparently gave him amnesia as to our opponent as well).  Greg Gennaro, Matt (Morty Seinfeld) Shiels, Joey (Jack Klompus) Wesselhoft and Pete Carroll contributed two hits a piece.  Shiels brought the Del Boca Vista Phase II faithful to their feet in the 5th with a go-ahead two run single that proved to be the difference in the game.  Roy “Cy Booey” Vaccaro had another solid outing on the mound including 2 strikeouts…and also treated the sold out crowd to a baserunning clinic along with weekly offender Stevie Espo.  The two of them are currently working on an instructional video that may outsell Tom Emanski’s…

Following the victory, the VI postgame celebration included a quick dismantling of Tommy Stanley’s 50 beer offering to the gods.  Afterwards, several of the Idiots (DRye, Pete Carroll, TStan, Booey, Diesel and myself) headed over to the Beach House for a post-postgame celebration.  Highlights included two hot bartenders, one of them with swine flu, two Irish lasses who succumbed to the old VI charm, several shots of Jameson, broken pints glasses, and last but not least, Diesel’s infamous “I wonder if Minnesota’s has a team” comment…ladies and gentlemen, this stuff cannot be made up.

Come support VI this Wednesday and they battle the Beach House at 9:30 p.m. on field 1…and also feel free to stop by our postgame festivities in the parking lot immediately afterwards.  We offer our fans a solid effort on the field and in the parking lot.
