Idiots Improve to 3-1 with Comeback Win!

The Village Idiots made it three in a row last night with a classic come from behind victory over the previously unbeaten Swingbelly’s. Swingbelly’s led most of the game but the Idiots rallied with two runs in the bottom on the 6th to break a 10-10 tie and held on for a 12-11 win. The 3 wins in a row is a V.I. Softball franchise best!
After a tight low scoring game last week, the Idiots’ bats woke up this Wednesday night but unfortunately so did their opponents. Swingbelly’s led 5-3 after the 1st inning and 9-5 at the end of 3. Then in the 4th, outfielder Tommy Weber (3 for 4) followed a John Walls strikeout with a solo homer to fire up the V.I. faithful. Three batters later, Joey “Boombah” Wesselhoft’s sac fly would score second baseman Tom Stanley (3 for 3) to cut the deficit to 9-7.
After giving one run back in the top of the 5th the Idiots found themselves down 10-7. Then just like he did last week, pitcher Roy Vaccaro helped himself out. Johan Delabante tomahawked a three-run homerun to left field to tie the game at 10. He would then pitch his first 1-2-3 inning of the night to put his team in a spot to win.
With one out in the bottom of the 6th, Tommy Casal tagged up on a shallow flyball by Wesselhoft and reached second base just in time to put the winning run in scoring position. That brought up Matt Shiels who then hit a deep fly ball in the gap in right center that fell out of the mitt of the Swingbelly’s right-center fielder. Casal and Shiels each scored to put the V.I. up 12-10. Swingbelly’s got one run in the 7th but it wasn’t enough as the Village Idiots held on for the 12-11 victory!
The Idiots will next be in action on Wednesday, June 2nd taking on Mulberry Street at 8:20 p.m.

What’s this I hear about a scoring controversy???
Was Shiels’ shot to Right-Center a hit or an error? Sounds to me if it hit the guys mitt, that’s an error!
