The Idiots Win, The Mets Win, We Drink!!!

A fine evening was had last night after the Village Idiots Basketball Team posted their 5th straight victory in the Slammer Jammer Division of the Urban Pro League… backed by solid play all around, the VI handled the athletic but disorganized Piranhas easily to notch a 65-51 win! Not that anyone was counting, but Ed “Obama” Caceres probably led all scorers with about 22 points as they had no answer for his quickness in the post…
The post-game festivities led us to Southern Hospitality on the Upper East Side, where NBA and MLB action were on the TVs and Coors Light Drafts were on special for $2… so we settled in quite comfortably. A surprise addition to the group was Cullen Prater of VI Extreme Ski Tour fame, who just happened to be enjoying a fine meal with a pretty young lady before shipping off to his second home in Lake Tahoe…
With plenty of cheap beer in us, the emotions started to heat up as both the Mets and the Celtics mounted comebacks (against the Braves and Magic, respectively)…
After Jose Reyes killed an 8th inning rally by getting thrown out trying to stretch his 2-RBI double into a triple, things didn’t look good for the Amazin’s…. Luckily they pieced together one more run in the 9th inning to tie it up thanks to a key stolen base by Carlos Beltran and a Sac Fly by Luis Castillo. The Atlanta pitching eventually buckled in the 10th and walked in the winning run for the Metropolitans! Our charming bartender, Kat, dished out the celebratory shots and it was time to try to concentrate on the NBA Action…
In between playing about 12 games of PhotoHunt, we managed to watch one of the most pathetic choke jobs of the Playoffs, as the Magic completely collapsed down the stretch… I was disgusted, but for the Celtics fans, it was cause to celebrate, so the Flaming Dr. Pepper shots were not turned down…
In addition to thanking the courteous service of Kat behind the bar, I would like to make note that the usually disciplined Aubrey “Screwdriver” Brown was seen chugging Vodka/OJs throughout the late evening… lets hope he wasn’t to drunk to use his metrocard…

Sorry I missed it. Would have loved to see Aubrey consume something other then Diet coke.
