VI Hoops takes sole possession of 1st in the Slammer Jammer Division!

    By DanKnip | May 6, 2009

On-FireRepeating what has become the norm this Spring Hoops season, the Village Idiots (3-0 going into last night’s action) charged hard out of the gate against Marolda Properties (also 3-0).  To open up, consecutive 3-Pt field goals by Ty Springer, Linc Isetta and VI Rookie Chris Bocciolatt set Marolda back on their heels and the swarming VI Defense quickly made it obvious that this was not going to be a close game.  After opening up a 28 point lead in the first half, the VI held onto a 45-22 advantage at the break.

Chick-Foul2Luckily for the fans, a sub-plot had developed as Marolda’s bruiser decided that even an embarrassing blow-out loss couldn’t quiet his mouth or his forearms in his battle with VI Veteran Greg Harrison.   Layup after layup by Harrison was answered with push after shove by the bandana clad intimidator.  To the credit of the referees, they kept things under control, and cooler heads prevailed in the end.  Marolda did manage to get one more cheap shot in while the VI were killing the clock, and the line of the night has to go to the guy who blantantly shoved Springer to the floor… after getting called for a flagrant foul, he contested that “He flopped!”… apparently he doesn’t know his own strength.

At the end of the day, the Idiots won 74-57 and now are in first place alone with a record of 4-0.  Next game is Tuesday, March 12th at Hunter College… gametime, 7:30pm!
