Idiots Fall Victim to Wild Comeback…

    By VI Administrator | February 12, 2009

The 6-0 Village Idiots faced off against the 1-5 Deutsche Bank Ballers on Tuesday night, and everything went according to plan early on… the VI Defense did not allow a point for the first 5 minutes and Linc Isetta’s hot shooting streak continued as the VI opened up a 10-0 lead out of the gate.  The overmatched Ballers continued to struggle on the offensive end and the VI lead was 16 at the half.

Isetta knocked down two more 3-pt shots to start out the second half, but then the VI offense seemed to stall out, managing to score only 7 points in the last 20 minutes… The once comfortable lead got cut to single digits, and missed free throw after missed free throw allowed the Ballers to get within 6 with a minute left.  After a rare successful VI foul shot pushed the lead to 51-44, the Idiots put the pressure on and the clock ticked away as the Ballers struggled to get a shot off.

Reggie-ChokeThe VI felt a sense of comfort when they knocked another pass out of a Baller’s hands with 12 seconds left and set up to defend a sideline in-bounds play which surely was going to lead to a 3-point attempt.  After face-guarding the inbounder, Dan Knipscher turned around and got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, fouling the 3-point shooter as the quickly released shot fell threw, cutting the lead to 4 and sending the shooter to the line with 10 seconds left.  The free-throw was missed and somehow fell into the hands of another Deutsche Bank player who quickly tapped it back in, completely the “5-point play” and cutting the lead to 2 with 8 seconds left.

FT-distractionOut of time-outs, the Ballers had to foul and the Idiots’ most lethal sharpshooter, Isetta, was sent to the line with 5 seconds left.  After rimming out his second shot in a row, the ball somehow fell back into his hands and he went back up for the game-sealing lay-up.  Somehow it bounced out and right into Deutsche Bank hands with just a few ticks left.  After two dribbles, the Baller tossed up a 50 foot prayer to beat the buzzer… with every eye in the gym focused on it… the ball banked in and put the DB Ballers ahead 52-51, handing the Village Idiots their first loss of the year!  Sickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!
