Quick Thoughts… and the VI Rankings

    By Mystery Reporter | December 1, 2008

    Young-Sooner-Poon Young-Gator-Poon Young-Tide-Poon

Looks like we’ll be seeing Oklahoma vs. the Florida/Alabama winner. The BCS kinda got it right this year… (assuming the Sooners don’t lose to Mizzou). The only other team who would have an argument is Texas, as they have the same record as OU and beat them head to head. USC’s and PSU’s schedules cannot compete with those of Texas and OU. Alabama is undefeated and stakes claim to the #1 spot. Florida must beat them to get in. Does it get any better then this???? It’s like a semi final game!

Now for the rankings as I see them…

#1. Alabama - There cannot be an argument here right now. Undefeated, and mashed several of their tougher opponents. Smash mouth football, and they dominate in the trenches. They’ll beat Florida. I’m telling ya right now!!!

#2. Texas - If Orakpo doesn’t get hurt, and Gideon doesn’t drop an easy INT, they beat Texas Tech. This team played the toughest schedule. Okla State, Mizzou, Tex Tech, Oklahoma….. C’mon voters, what are you thinking??!!!

#3. Oklahoma - If the Sooners get in to the title game, I will not complain. I think UT should based on head to head, but this is a good team. Bradford is money. They embarrassed Tech.

#4 Florida - The Gators round out the top 4 teams in the country (at the moment). I think the Gators get exposed this weekend. Gators will get a chance to beat Bama… but I say…No way!!!  2 losses drops them back to reality. Bama ain’t no Citadel or Florida State folks. Florida is good, but steamrolled a very easy back schedule.

#5. Penn State - Get the matchup they want in the Rose Bowl. Beat USC and they restore credibility back to the Big 10. This is one the Big Ten must have!

#6. USC - Most talented team in the country, but rightfully punished for losing to Oregon State. They have a cream puff schedule and cannot afford to lose games. This team can play with anyone though.

#7. Boise State - Why not?! This is one the winningest programs over the last 3 or 4 years. They knocked off Oklahoma in a BCS bowl 2 years ago. Ian Johnson is a good RB and they have been producing NFL talent.

#8. Utah - I am not completely sold on teams who haven’t beaten anyone, but they deserve some love. I don’t think these guys win a major bowl unless they draw the Big East or ACC winner.

#9. Texas Tech - What a season!!! They just couldn’t handle Oklahoma. I thought they should have lost to Texas as well. Anyway….
    this team is very good.

#10 Ohio State - They lost to 2 top 10 teams and handled the rest of their schedule. 10-2 finish is not bad.

      Richard Billingsley…… PSU #9 OSU #8????!!!

Why do teams even play against each other???
They should just simulate seasons on computer programs.

      C’mon Dr. Ron… you’re a smart fellow… it’s math…
2 losses to Top 10 teams vs. 1 loss to a middle of the pack team…
      makes sense.

The whole purpose of the system is to evaluate who is considered the “Best” team…

We don’t have time for every team to play head-to-head, so we have to use the information we have to come to a reasonable conclusion. The Big 12 situation itself proves that head to head is not enough to go on…

Even when a playoff system is established, the battle for the 8th spot will be of similar debate as the battle for the #1 and #2 spots today… If you do not whoop up on every opponent on your schedule, you will be susceptible to the scrutiny of the voters and the computers…
The best thing to do would be to quit whining and fix whatever problem led to the loss that put you in this situation in the first place.

Bottom line - PSU didn’t go undefeated and is therefore subject to the possibility of finding itself behind other 1 loss teams.
Bottom line - PSU schedule was not impressive enough to win over the voters.
Bottom line - I need a Dr. Pepper.
Bottom line - They’ll play USC in the Rose Bowl, and get a chance to make an enormous statement. If they win, they’re a top 4 team.
      BOTTOM LINE!

Indeed, but I am not just talking about PSU. The whole BCS #2-9 is nonsense. NONSENSE!!!
