NCAA Football Power Rankings going into Week 5…

    By Mystery Reporter | September 23, 2008

USC-Pulls-Away1. USC Trojans - I think this team could give the St. Louis Rams a run for there money… Maybe. The Trojans were idle this week, but put themselves in the drivers seat for a BCS title run. Their defense has only given up 10 points in two games and the offense is clicking. Sanchez looks legit. Also, a pretty bad Pac-10 will help the Trojans load up on stats. Next up: Oregon State.

Gator-TD2. Florida Gators - This is a fairly big jump considering no other team in front of them lost, but this is the most complete SEC team. The Gators have a Heisman Trophy winner at QB, a healthy Percy Harvin, and a defense that appears to be very talented (19 points in 3 games). UF misses Auburn on the schedule this year, so if they beat LSU and Georgia… and I think they will, they’ll play USC for a title.

Sam-Bradford3. Oklahoma Sooners - OU was idle this past weekend enjoying their fast 3-0 start. TCU is coming in to town this weekend, and the Sooners explosive offense should face its’ stiffest test yet. I don’t think I quite have a feel for how good this team is yet, but we’ll find out soon enough. QB Sam Bradford is a good one.

Mizzou-Jump4. Missouri Tigers - The Tigers offense was held in check (sort of) forthe first time all season. The Buffalo Bulls made it interesting for 3 quarters before Mizzou rolled 42-21. QB Chase Daniel has 12 tds, only 1 pick and over 1400 yards passing. At 4-0 the defense is still a concern, but they should roll through a favorable big 12 schedule (missing Oklahoma and Texas Tech). Idle this week.

    Moreno-Dive
    5. Georgia Bulldogs - The Dawgs are 4-0 and I really cannot point out any major flaws in there game, but I just get the feeling this team will be in trouble as the schedule gets tougher. It starts with Bama this week. I don’t think they’ll be able to match the physical play of the Tide… If I am wrong than maybe the Dawgs will jump up. Brutal schedule with LSU, Bama, Florida and Auburn. OUCH!

Jarrett-Lee6. LSU Tigers - Big win over Auburn this past week, solidifying them as one of the top teams in the nation. Did they find a QB answer with Jarrett Lee? He looked like a seasoned vet in the second half. I love the way Charles Scott runs the ball, the defensive front is very formidable. The key to this team might just be Lee. If he gets going… this team could be in the title hunt… The jury is still out.

Texas-Catch7. Texas Longhorns - This is a big 12 team that is flying under the radar… Oklahoma and Mizzou get all the national hype… sprinkle in Texas Tech and Kansas talk before the season, and the Horns seemed to disappear. They’re 3-0 and have looked really strong. This team will challenge OU and Tech for the South title.

Badger-Cut8. Wisonsin Badgers - The Badgers were idle this week, but currently stand at 3-0. The Wolverines are up next for Wisky at the Big House. The Badgers won a good game on the road against a tough Fresno State team, and could make another one with a big win here. Wisconsin needs to beat up on Michigan for people to start talking outside of Madison.

Bama-Pick9. Alabama Crimson Tide - This team has throttled 2 quality opponents in Clemson and Arkansas. Bama has a huge game coming up at Georgia this weekend… I think they win it. This team is extremely physical and has an experienced QB in JPW. If they win here, it could setup a huge showdown with LSU for SEC West supremecy… Could.

BYU-QB-Max-Hall10. BYU Cougars - BYU has won it’s last 2 games by a combined score of 103-0… Pretty sick. The Mountain West is not the SEC, but it certainly is better then the Pac-10, ACC and Big East. If the Cougars run the table they should be in a major bowl. It’s very possible both BYU and Utah could be undefeated going into the last week of the season. This is a good team.
