NCAA Football Power Rankings going into Week 4…
By Mystery Reporter | September 15, 2008
1. USC Trojans: This team is pretty sick. They have the best linebacking corp in the country, both offensive & defensive lines are dominant, they have speed and playmakers on both sides of the ball and Sanchez looks like the next great USC QB. Barring a major disaster this team should be playing for the national title in January.
2. Oklahoma Sooners: QB Sam Bradford has looked really good. They don’t have Missouri on their regular season schedule but will face plenty of tough games in the stacked Big 12. This is another team that is very solid in the trenches and has playmakers all over the field. Keys games will be against Texas and Texas Tech. Win those and the BCS title game will be waiting.
3. Georgia Bulldogs: Not a very impressive win against South Carolina, but the Gamecocks have an insane defense. Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno will give the Dawgs plenty of offense going forward. The WR corps has looked pretty good, and the defense showed it can play big when it has to. This team has a brutal schedule. Tennesse, Florida, LSU and Auburn still on the dockett.
4. Missouri Tigers: Will anyone be able to stop this insanely highpowered offense. Led by QB Chase Daniel who has over 900 yards passing, 10 TD and a 72% completion pctg in just three games, Mizzou is averaging just under 58 points per game. The defense struggled against Illinois, but looked better the last two weeks (albeit against lesser opponents). The Sooners don’t show up on the regular season schedule. This is areally good team.
5. Florida Gators: The Gators are off to a quick start, as they are 2-0.Wins against Hawaii and Miami by a combined score of 82-13, has Gainesville excited. They now enter the 8 game SEC gauntlet run, starting with Tennessee this week. Percy Harvin needs to be 100% for them to survive, he is explosive… Oh, and Tebow isn’t a bad weapon to have either. This team is a tough out for anyone.
6. LSU Tigers: The defending national champions are loaded again. The big question coming into the season would be their QB play… So far, so good. RB Charles Scott is averging over 11 yards per carry in his first two games as well. The defense is legit, especially the front four with Tyson Jackson and Ricky Jean-Francois. Huge test this week against Auburn!!!! Tough SEC West this year.
7. Wisconsin Badgers: This might be the team to beat in the Big Ten if OSU doesn’t rebound from the USC beating. Wisconsin has also matched up well with SEC teams in Bowl games in recent years as well. The Badgers are tough. They won a huge road game against WAC favorite Fresno State by a FG. RB PJ Hill is healthy and back to his old ways. QB AllenEveridge has been steady.
8. South Florida Bulls: I know… it might seem a little high, but I have been a Bulls fan the last three years. USF won a monster gameagainst Kansas this past week, and moved to 3-0 on the season. Look at the rest of their schedule… not very impressive… especially with the Big East having a down year. They could run the table and face WestVirginia with an 11-0 record in their season finale. DE George Selvie leads a solid Defense, QB Matt Grothe leads on offense.
9. Texas Longhorns: This team is pretty good, but they have a brutal schedule. Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas and Texas Tech. OUCH! QB Colt McCoy should have an excellent season with a good offensive line and WRs Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley as targets. If the running game is effective and the defense improves from last year, Texas will be in the Big 12 mix.
10. Alabama Crimson Tide: I still don’t think we’ve seen enough evidence from this team, but Saban has them in the right direction. The opening win against Clemson was awesome. They were dominant in the trenches…..aka Woogy Ball. ROLL TIDE….. This team should beat Arkansas this week, and then have a showdown with Georgia. We’ll see what this team is made of then. Strength veteran QB, tough defense and great lines.
10a. Auburn Tigers: Everyone has this team in the top 10… I don’t think they’re as good as everyone thinks, but at 3-0 I will give them a look. Winning 3-2 against a pretty bad Mississippi State team is not impressive. They didn’t light up Southern Miss either….. The strength of this team is defense… The offense is poor. I think everyone will see this against LSU. Auburn is in trouble and won’t be here next week.
10b. Texas Tech Red Raiders: This team will be lighting it up on offense as usual, but I am curious to see what their defense does. This team will need to beat Oklahoma to go to a BCS game. I don’t think so…. A top 15 team overall though.
Just missed, but could be here soon: Penn State, BYU, and yes, Ohio State(they could be a top 10 team)
