Big Country Covers the Spread - Week #3 Picks
By Big Country | September 12, 2008
Last week was especially brutal, and it showed in the picks– a mediocre record of 3-3 against the spread. This week, I’ll discuss 7 games, so there are no ties. Just like Playboy, I know more of you are here for the pictures than the analysis. I do love this great game of football, so here we go…. (picks in Bold, home teams in CAPS)
Kansas +3.5 SOUTH FLORIDA
Last week, USF blew a 14 point lead with a little over 3 minutes left to go. It was an absolute collapse, and gave some indication that this year’s team isn’t as good as last year. I’m not completely sold on Matt Grothe as a star college QB, and Kansas’ defense could give him problems. For Kansas, they have found a playmaker this year in sophomore wideout
Dezmon Briscoe, who already has 3 TDS and 201 yds through 2 games. USF may have issues this year defending the pass, and UCF rallied against them through the air. However, what puts Kansas over the top is the intimidating presence of their rotund, Jabba-the-Hut of a coach, Mark Mangino. He’s one fat bastard.
Georgia -7 SOUTH CAROLINA
For Georgia, this is the first real test of the year. Matt Stafford keeps getting better, while South Carolina’s QB situation keeps getting worse each week…. Beecher, Smelley, Stinkey, Dopey… it doesn’t matter who starts at QB for the Cocks. I have to say that I considered SC’s defense, which is very very good, but good QB play is key early in the season. The Dawgs have a huge edge when you consider Stafford versus SC’s QB by committee. I hate to go with an SEC road favorite, but Georgia is simply better than SC, and they should win by more than 7.
BYU -8 Ucla
How bad did the refs blow last week’s BYU-Wash game? Are you kidding me with that excessive celebration call? These girls would probably do a better job than those Pac-10 idiots, and they’d look a hell of a lot better doing it. Anyway, BYU got lucky last week, but that isn’t enough for me to hate on them at home. UCLA comes off a big win against Tennessee, but that was more of an implosion by the Vols than a dominating Bruin effort. UCLA has issues with their secondary, and BYU’s QB Max Hall has had success the last two meetings against UCLA (622 yds, 4TDS, 1INT). Look for BYU to settle down and get a big win.
I’m not going to even talk about the Michigan defense, or how bad Notre Dame is on both sides of
the ball. This pick is based solely on the assclown that is Jimmy Clausen. If you dare to take a look at these pics, you’ll see this kid is a damn train wreck. First, what’s with sticking your pinky out to form some kind of campus party gang sign??
Obviously, Jimmy likes to spend more time with his teammates, goofing around to form as many homo-erotic situations as possible. It’s like they’re on a gay scavenger hunt. I can’t even begin with the boat picture, its fucking atrocious. Anyway, I can’t go with a QB who can make these obviously bad decisions off the field.
Yeah, I know, Blacksburg is a tough place to play, but this program is really a mess right now. Beamer spent too much time flip-flopping between Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor, and now the VT offense is struggling. For Georgia Tech, aside from the total lack of hot looking girls at their school, they looked good in a road win against Boston College. I can’t get too excited though, this is the ACC… and it sucks. The only reason this game is in here is I wanted to handicap 7 games, and ties are for socialists and Mr. Vedder.
After watching Rutgers get embarrassed at home last night, I have to question exactly how good Fresno St is. I think many people gave them credit for what now looks like a layup win at Rutgers. Wisconsin is good, and can control the clock with their ground game and their best player PJ Hill. Oh and by the way, Fresno State was 0-8 against the spread in non-conference games up until that win at Rutgers.
This is the best game of the year? I don’t think so. The spread is up to 11.5 after the news that Beanie Wells is doubtful to play. Why did Tressel announce that so fast, is he playing some kind of mind game? I don’t think so. I think he was tired of having to answer questions on Beanie’s status, and he’s trying to motivate based on the idea that “our team is bigger than any one player.” Too bad Tressel, it won’t work. The USC offense headed by Mark “Dirty” Sanchez is much better than the Beanie-less crew. USC is also coming off a bye week, and had two weeks to prepare for arguably one of their only challenging games this year. I think USC will make a statement and win this one big. Extra pics for this one - - USC is the hot chick capital of the world.

I am going broke following Big Country’s picks!!!
Last week I bet $100 on each pick, and he went 3-3, so I lost $30.
I much prefer the Allocoftheweek, which I made $600 on last week.
I will bet another $100 on each of these 7 games this week, and $100 on the Allocoftheweek, and we will see where I make more money.

I am glad that Big Country Kauffman has finally grown a nutsack and picked an odd number of games. Last week’s tied result was like kissing your sister. I want to win or lose, none of this tie 3-3 BS.
Big Country Kauffman needs to man up!!

I made $180 on Big Country’s picks this year. Brings my total to +$150 on the season.
Not quite the Allock of the Week (+$1300), but still a nice profit.

Dom you freaking bag of douche. Big Country went 5-1-1 this week, earning me $390 and putting me to +$360 on the week.
Why don’t you go swim in the polluted water of the Jersey Shore or something?

Good thing Sarah Palin doesn’t read this blog. She would want the pictures of the good looking girls censored. Woman is a freak.
