The Allock of the Week is back!!!
By Allock of the Week | September 11, 2008
Hey there sports fans…the Allock of the Week is here and you there. After digesting the first couple of weeks of the season, I am back to bring top notch coverage of college football (and of course, my pro football Allock of the Week pick). Before I pick this week’s games, let me give you some insight as to what I’ve noticed thus far this season.
First off, Notre Dame still sucks…Jimmy Clausen looks like Ronnie “Sunshine” Bass with that long hair of his and barely squeaked by San Diego State last week. Will someone do us all a favor and take ND football off of NBC and put it on the Lifetime Network where it belongs.
Next, the ACC and Big East are major disappointments overall…they should probably do college football a favor and turn down any BCS bowl bid that their conference champion earns. When South Florida and Wake Forest are respectively your two best teams, it’s time to pack it in.
Also, SEC fans shouldn’t start booking a trip to Miami just yet…I sense a Pac-10 v. Big 12 matchup for the BCS Championship. Georgia seems to be the cream of the crop this year, but they need to worry about keeping their players on the field and out of jail and the trainer’s room.
Lastly, don’t be surprised if Penn State comes out on top in the Big Ten (college football’s pro factory). Aside from the injury to Chris Wells, Todd Boeckmann has not stepped up in his second year as a starter and that may spell trouble for the Buckeye fans (like Gerry Connors). Michigan’s spread offense is not going to get them any further than maybe 4th place in that conference…Bo Schembechler is probably rolling over in his grave watching that nonsense. Wisconsin is good, but we’ll see how they fare with 3 of their next 4 against Top 25 schools (Fresno St., Ohio St., and Penn St.)
That being said, let’s look at this week’s games…
Ohio St. v. USC – Pete Carroll can be very annoying in many different ways, but he always puts a competitive team on the field. USC’s defense is one of the tops in the nation and it should fare well against the injured Buckeye offense. As I mentioned above, the lack of progress in Boeckmann’s game will lead to OSU’s downfall. As much as I am a Big Ten supporter, USC is clearly the better team of the two and it would take a miracle for OSU to pull the upset.
Allock of the Week says…USC big over OSU
Kansas v. South Florida – This is an intriguing matchup. South Florida had a nice, balanced attack last week against UCF and Kansas is no slouch either. Todd Reesing is racking up some major numbers this year and I think he’ll have a good game against South Florida. Matt Groethe is going to have to do better than his zero TD performance from 2 years ago to give his team any shot.
Allock of the Week says…Kansas over South Florida in a close one
Wisconsin v. Fresno State – Fresno State has a nice win under its belt courtesy of Rutgers, but I’m still not buying them yet. This will be the first real test to see how good Tim Brandstater really is. Wisconsin proved last week that they could throw the ball and let’s not forget about P.J. Hill. Wisconsin plays good old Big Ten smash-mouth football and I think it’ll be a little too much for the Bulldogs to handle.
Allock of the Week says…Badgers over Bulldogs
Arkansas v. Texas – Postponed until September 27
Michigan v. Notre Dame – Oh, how I loathe the Fighting Irish…perhaps the most overrated team in college football. Talk about a team that hasn’t been relevant in over a decade and yet still gets a monster tv deal. That aside, “Sunshine” Clausen is still nothing impressive and didn’t show much against SDSU – a real “powerhouse” whose best QB is their coach. I’m not a fan of Michigan’s spread offense but last week, it seemed to gel a little better than their second annual “Disappoint Your Fans On The First Game Of The Season” matchup with Utah.
Allock of the Week says…Michigan big over ND
Allock of the Week – Pro Pick of the Week
A lot of tough matchups out there and while I normally don’t like taking road teams giving big points…I say take Big Blue giving 9 to the hapless St. Louis Rams
Good day!

Hey guido. Nice call on Michigan big over ND. Maybe all that hair gel is seeping into your brain? Go spend your money on a bottle of drakkar noir instead of handing it over to the bookies by betting against the Irish.
Alloco is just a typical New Jersey Guido hating on ND!!!
