The preseason VI top 10 is in!
By Mystery Reporter | August 25, 2008
1. Georgia Bulldogs - There wasn’t a hotter team in the country during the final week’s of the 2007-08 season. There run ended with a 41-0 trouncing of undefeated Hawaii. 2008 hasn’t been off to a great start for Mark Richt….numerous suspensions and the loss of their top o-linemen has Dawg fans a little concerned. Georgia will be led by a solid defense, and a high powered offense led by RB Knowshon Moreno and QB Matt Stafford. Tough SEC schedule will test Dawgs early and often.
2. Ohio State Buckeyes - People will criticize the Buckeyes all year about everything, but I don’t buy it. Let’s go back several years. In my opinion there best team in recent years was in 2005-06 season. Remember that year? A tough loss to Texas (eventual undefeated national champs) in which Troy Smith only played half the game (suspension). Should have won it, if Hamby didn’t drop a TD pass. They finished 11-2 and won the Fiesta Bowl. In 2006-07, they ran the table and lost to UF in the championship game. Didn’t think the defense was up too par! 2007-08 this team overachieved. New QB, RB,WR’s and they went 11-2. This is a good team this year!!! Can they finish….? I don’t care about the Big Ten schedule. The game against USC is it!!!!!
3. USC Trojans - Going for their 200th consecutive PAC-10 title….. or so it seems. No one will touch the Trojans this year in the Pac -10. The defense is going to be pretty sick, and with Joe McKnight in the backfield the offense will be explosive. LB’s Brian Cushing and Rey Mauluga are going to be very tough to contain.
Their matchup at home against the Buckeyes, could be the best game of the season. USC will be in familiar position as always this season. In the hunt for the Sears trophy, and a top the PAC-10.
4. Oklahoma Sooners - The Sooners are my favorites to win the South and beat Missouri in the Big 12 title game. QB Sam Bradford will lead a very talented offense. They’ll boast maybe the best offensive line in college football. RB Demarco Murray could be a Heisman darkhorse if he stays healthy. Plenty of talent at WR, but the big question will be the defensive side of the ball. They miss Missouri on the regular season schedule this year, so it could be an exciting Big 12 title game.
5. West Virginia Mountaineers - New regime, same results…..for this year at least! Pat White leads a high powered spread option offense, that should put up major points on everyone. Noel Devine will fill in for Steve Slaton, and I have a feeling he’ll do just fine. The offensive line will be one of the best in the country, and the defense is very underrated. I loved the way WVU dominated the Sooners last year in the Fiesta Bowl…. No one in the Big East will challenge these guys, if they play tough. Should be another BCS bowl for the Mountaineers this season.
6. Florida Gators - This team should contend for the SEC championship and possibly the national championship. They return Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, and speedster Percy Harvin to lead a nice offense. The defense should also be solid, despite the rash of injuries to the secondary. The Gators schedule is a little lighter then Georgia, but they still have to play Georgia, Tennessee and LSU. I like UF to be the team most likely to upset Georgia and go the the title game. Again…. their schedule is lighter.
7. Missouri Tigers - The Missouri Tigers were robbed of a BCS bowl bid last year. They fell twice to Oklahoma, but handled the rest of their schedule nicely to finish 12-2. This year they miss Oklahoma during the regular season, but will be tested by Kansas, Texas and a big non-conference home game against Illinois.
QB Chase Daniel will be in the Heisman race once again, and big play WR Jeremy Maclin should turn some heads as well. If the defense improves, this team will be extremely dangerous.
8. LSU Tigers - The defending national champs are coming in at #8 this year, but believe me this team will be legit. The loss of Ryan Perilloux is the difference this year. They’ll start an inexperienced QB, which will spell trouble agains tthe speedy SEC defenses. Having to play Florida and Georgia also will make it tough to run the table. Throw in Auburn, and their schedule might be tougher then anyones. This team will rely on a really good defense, anchored by the best defensive line inthe country. The loss of Bo Pelini might also hurt.
9. Clemson Tigers - Hands down the most talented team on paper in the ACC. QB Cullen Harper, RB’s CJ Spiller and Craig Davis and WR Aaron Kelly should lead an high powered offense. DeQuan Bowers & Ricky Sapp anchor a very good defensive line. The ACC is probably the weakest of the BCS conferences this year as well. No national championship contenders, and overall mediocrity. This is Clemson’s golden opportunity. They’ll get tested early by Alabama. Win that, and they’ll be in excellent position for a run….
10. Texas Longhorns - QB Colt McCoy should have a monster year this season, but the Big 12 is loaded. The Longhorns have a brutal schedule that includes games against Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Texas Tech and Colorado. Non - conference game against Arkansas is no lay up either. This is a tough road ahead, but I think Texas is going to surprise teams this year. The defense needs to be mucgh better then is was a year ago.

I have to say, Mr Moreno’s shoulder, all the suspensions, a young OL…. Creates lots of doubt….
