NCAA TOURNEY DAY 2 RECAP - OH BABY!!!
By The Real McCoy | March 22, 2008
Western Kentucky, thank you thank you thank you! Finally, the reason we watch these games! Who knew Drake vs Western Kentucky would turn into an instant classic? I could watch those two teams play 100 times. They combined for a tournament record 70 three point attempts and the final shot was the 30th three pointer made, breaking another NCAA tournament record. I must admit, as good as the game was, it would’ve been nice to see these two programs play someone from a major conference because I think they both would’ve pulled off upsets.
Could Day 2 have been more opposite of Day 1? The Curse of Tampa as it’ll be known as two number 12 seeds and two number 13 seeds pulled off the impossible. Did anyone else notice UCONN methodically playing against San Diego. Almost like they thought they’re we’re playing against a middle school team. Good to see those Beach Boys pull it off. And poor Clemson, how do you lose a 18 point lead? Oh, that’s right, free throw shooting came back to haunt you and you couldn’t buy a bucket in the last ten minutes.
Why was no one else really surprised that Sienna dominated Vanderbilt? I don’t even know where Siena is located or where there players are from but they spanked Vandy. Vandy if you’ll remember is the same team that beat then #1 in the country Tennessee. Speaking of the Volunteers, I hope they enjoyed their victory over American because I see them getting creamed by Butler in the next round.
The Big East should be nicknamed the Big Beast as they’re now 8 and 0. But the heroes of Day 2 have to be the boys in Tampa. Never in tournament history have all the higher seeds beaten the lower seeds in the same region. So congrats W. Kentucky, Sienna, San Diego, & Villanova. The Sweet Sixteen is guranteed at least two 12 or 13 seeds. Wear that glass slipper proud, gentlemen. You earned it.
