MARCH MADNESS TOURNEY PREVIEW - Get Your Upsets Here!
By The Real McCoy | March 18, 2008
I’ve analyzed the brackets, spit coffee in the expert’s faces, and even beat Dickie V in a one on one game of beer pong where he pretended he was Tyler Hansborough and I was Michael Beaseley. Fun times. For all you Office Pool Maniacs out there looking for the Cinderellas - look no further.
Round 1 - I’m not saying it’s going to happen but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
Winthrop upsetting Washington State. Remember, Winthrop knocked off Notre Dame last year in the first round. You don’t think the Irish would love a rematch with them in the second round. Winthrop wins or loses by the three pointer. If they’re making them it’s as good as over.
Villanova beating Clemson. I’m a big Clemson fan after this weekend. They have monsters under the boards and their guard play is as good as anyone’s in the country. But they can’t hit a free throw if their lives depended on it and I think that might come back to haunt them. Nova is a solid team, they’re quicker and faster than Clemson so it’ll be a game of size and strength versus speed and agility. I’d be shocked if this game was decided by three points or more.
Temple over Michigan State. Temple won the Atlantic 10 and gets insulted by the committee with a 12 seed? That makes no sense. Remember, Temple prides themselves on defense. Also remember, Michigan State only scored 36 points on Iowa earlier this year. Another team that prides themselves on defense. Love Temple in the upset here.
Georgia upsetting Xavier. Georgia is this year’s Cinderella and they haven’t even played a game in the NCAA tournament yet. Anyone who wins twice in one day and then wins eighteen hours later has to have their stars aligned. They have something that scares other teams - they believe they can beat anyone anytime anywhere. Like the Blues Brothers said, “We’re on a mission from God.” Look out Xavier, that tornado just might be heading your way.
DON’T MISS MATCHUPS OF ROUND ONE!
1) Miami versus St. Mary’s. Has anyone seen Miami’s team? They’re a bunch of muscle bound tattooed tough guys that rip down rebounds and dunk so hard the earth shakes. St. Mary’s are a bunch of alter boys who play suburban driveway basketball and ask for forgiveness after a foul. Very dynamic game.
2) Kansas State versus USC. Michael Beasley versus OJ Mayo. The two most highly recruited players of last year. Probably two of this years two top five NBA draft picks. OJ Mayo also plays against his old high school teammate Bill Walker who can jump out of the gym. Going to be a star-studded matchup.
IF ANY 16 OR 15 SEED COULD WIN IN ROUND ONE IT WOULD BE:
American upsetting Tennessee. If I had to choose one that’s who’d it be. Enjoy and be sure to come back for my second round analysis!

I am going to take Siena over Vanderbilt, with my upset special. Other than Foster, the team doesn’t impress me. Look for the upstate boys to send them home early.

I like Michigan State but I think they got a bad break by getting Temple as a 12 seed. I can’t remember any Major Conference Tournament Winner as a 12 seed before. Plus, I’m still not sold on the Big 10. Xavier is in the Atlantic 10 and they beat Indiana yet got demolished by Temple by almost 20 earlier in the season. Who knows? I agree that Siena can beat Vandy, hell, anyone can beat anyone that’s why they call it March MADNESS BABY!
