Spring 2007 - Game 4

Prior to being rained out last weekend, the V.I. moved to 3-0 with a forfeit win on Easter Saturday... Apparently, without games for two weeks, communication faded a bit, because the Idiots were only able to find 7 players to start Sunday's game against the Hustlers. The man-advantage quickly paid off for the Hustlers as they scored on the first play of the game off of a simple halfback dive that went 50 yds, and then opened a 13-0 advantage on the subsequent possesion before the Village Idiots had their 8th player arrive.

Having a full squad paid immediate dividends for the Idiots, as they marched down the field and Brian Stanley connected with Randy Cardona to narrow the margin to a single score before the half. The TD was Cardona's 5th of the early season. The score at the break was 13-6 in favor of the Hustlers.

The VI received the kickoff to start the second half, but tough starting field position combined with a three and out left the defense vulnerable to the quick score that the Hustlers retaliated with. The Idiots, however, did not let the game slip away so easily as BStan tossed it up for Tom Weber downfield and TWebs made an almost expected great catch to pull in the score. After another nice snag for the conversion, the Idiots trailed 19-13 with 3 minutes to go.

A big defensive stand led by the efforts of Ronnie Traina, Tom Cahill and Danny Morgan up front got the ball back for BStan to take one more shot at the comeback victory, but a tiring receiving core and ticking clock were too much for the Idiots to overcome. The VI lose their 1st of the season.

The Idiots are scheduled to be back in action next Sunday, April 29th, 1:30pm in Inwood, but due to known conflicts, they are trying to reschedule the game... check in for the latest updates at week's end
