The Idiots keep the pressure on the Leprechauns and prevail

The Village Idiots brought only seven players down to the court on this hot summer night as they took on a familiar foe in the veteran Leprechauns. With the usual V.I. floor generals unavailable for this one, TWebs and DKnip were left the task of running the offense against the scrappy opponents.

As usual, the Idiots enjoyed the athletic advantage in this one, and they were able to frustrate the Leprechauns with their aggresive zone defense as they jumped out to a 12-1 lead with Casal, Shiels and Harrison acting as virtual roadblocks in the paint. The lead would not stick however as the Leprechauns adjusted to the zone and were able to knock down a few floaters to tighten things up and actually led 16-15. Knip, never shy to release a few from behind the arc, answered by knocking down 3 triples and a few steals by Frank Kelly led to V.I. buckets, which helped push the V.I. to a 26-23 halftime lead.

With the Idiots surprised to still be in a close game, they decided to switch up their approach in the second half, and left the famous 2-3 zone for a man-to-man approach. The physical advantage once again made the difference as the pressure rattled the Leprechauns into wild shots and Gormsen and the Idiots cleaned the glass. It was DKnip again leading the offense as he added two more long-range bombs to push the lead to double digits and his total to 19.

The Idiots cruised the rest of the way as they finished off with a 47-34 victory to move to 3-0!

The biggest numbers of the night were put up after the game as Knipscher, Gormsen, Weber and Harrison washed down the parking lot beers with 80 wings and a few more cold ones to the delight of one friendly waitress over at Croxley's... with a blow out expected next week, this may become the beginning of new V.I. tradition!
