Another Big Win and the V.I. Move On

August 16, 2006

With guest star referee Larry David in attendance, the Village Idiots played pretty pretty pretty good en route to a 49-28 victory.  The V.I. advanced into the semifinals where they will take on division foe Holy Name for a chance to get to the finals and defend their championship.

The Idiots came out a little sluggish early and found themselves trailing by one point late in the first quarter.  "The Fribulator" Freddie Paul then hit runner at the buzzer to put the V.I. up 10-9 after one.  In the second, the V.I.'s tenacious defense kicked in and the Idiots held their opponent to only 5 points in the quarter.  Frib-dibble would come through once again in the final seconds hitting a three-pointer as time expired in the first half to put the Idiots up by 10.

The second half was more of the same for the Village Idiots.  Hard-nose defense and several fast break points helped them build on their halftime lead and never look back.  The Idiots would go on to win 49-28 in a game that was cut a few minutes short due to some drive-by threats towards the V.I.  Like that would stop the Idiots from tailgaiting, not at all.

Freddie Paul lead all scorers with his season high 16 points and added 5 assists.  Matt Shiels chipped in with 9 points and 6 rebounds and "Double D" Dan Dougherty had a solid performance with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
